What is Structural Integration?

Structural Integration (SI), a.k.a Rolfing, is a specialized form of manual therapy and movement reeducation developed from the pioneering work of Dr Ida P Rolf over the last 50+ years.

This approach uniquely focuses on the body’s network of connective tissues - fascia - that surround, support and interconnect all your muscles, bones, nerves and organs. When the fascial web is out of balance, your muscles and joints are not able to function optimally.

SI works to release chronic strain and facilitate improved coordination between your muscles, joints and bones. By integrating your whole body, SI can help you to find better posture, freedom of movement and greater well-being.

A method to re-educate the body
using movement, touch and awareness.

Structural Integration employs precise soft tissue manipulation, movement education and body awareness to unite and restore the whole person. Rather than a collection of separate parts, SI recognizes the body as a cohesive whole. It works to reorganize the continuous web of fascia to release, realign and balance the whole body, the whole person.

More than just a way of working with connective tissues and muscles, it engages deep set holding patterns and poor postural habits to help you experience an optimal way of moving and being in your body. With better posture, increased ease, adaptability and resilience, your body will truly become your ally.

Bring your body into balance

The way you sit, stand and move everyday can have far reaching effects throughout your body. Due to stress, tension, incorrect usage and overuse your body’s fascia can become bound, thickened and shortened resulting in all manner of dysfunction and discomfort.

Many neck, back and other body problems may actually be symptoms of chronic postural restrictions. Injuries, small and large, can also prevent you from being able to move freely, often causing limiting effects throughout your wider body.

By stripping back the imbalances and compensations you accumulate through life, Structural Integration helps your body to find its natural alignment.
